OPEN DOOR CHRISTIAN CENTER
History

The Open Door Christian Center was founded

by Geraldine Hastings. The following is our

history since that time

1993 - Open Door Youth Center was started and

Geraldine Hastings continued the youth

ministry alone

1995 - The 501-C-3 status was established

1996 - Geraldine leaves youth ministry to

follow burden for the homeless

1997 - First Homeless Shelter Dorm Room was

opened

1998 - Second Homeless Shelter Dorm Room

opened

1999 - Two additional larger dorm rooms were

opened

2000 - Charles and Melinda Brewington

(Geraldine’s Son) entered the ministry full

time

2003 - Alcohol/Drug Recovery Program began

2004 - Open Door Chapel began

2005 - House of Hope opened - Male halfway

house

2009 - Home of Hope opened - Female and

Children’s Shelter

2012 - Soup Kitchen Opened

2015 - Renamed Soup Kitchen to Geraldine’s

Kitchen after her death

2017 - January Renamed Open Door Chapel to

Hope Chapel, June Began limited female

recovery
